ECOLOGY AND ENVIRONMENT

This program is designed for students interested in situation analysis and development   measures to reduce existing and potential harm to the environment.

Demand for professional ecologists is growing in both the public and private sectors, as organizations seek to understand and reduce their environmental impact and develop alternative modes of operation. The subjects of professional activity for qualified ecologists are: natural and urbanized ecosystems, the biosphere and its components. The profession has global reach and graduates are well placed for international work and study.

ENVIRONMENTAL ECONOMICS

This is a program aimed at training environmental economists to find balanced solutions for companies and governments producing the required level of output with the least consumption of natural resources and their re-use. The ecologist-economist is fundamental to modern business and government.  On the program students will learn about environmental legislation, standards and regulations, be able to conduct environmental impact assessment and monitoring, develop computer modeling skills and be able to undertake comprehensive assessment of environmental and economic damage and environmental risks.

What can I do with this program?

Environmental economists are in high demand in both public and private sectors.  Environmental impact assessment is fundamental to all business processes and its regulation is a major part of state activity. In each major industrial and other company has an environmental economist who oversees production processes. Graduates are in demand in the energy sector, mining and chemical industry, in valuation, auditing and construction companies and in the state organizations which regulate activity.

SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

The development of new and existing activities based on use of renewable energy and the principles of sustainability is an area of growing interest in both public and private sectors  in a world where concern over environmental impact of human activity is a concern.

This program will provide a first provide a comprehensive foundation in awareness of environmental issues and the relationship between man and the biosphere.  Students will learn about environmental legislation, standards and regulations, be able to conduct environmental impact assessment and monitoring, develop computer modeling skills and be able to undertake comprehensive assessment of environmental and economic damage and environmental risks.

Following this, the program will focus on key issues related to the changing energy mix and growth of renewables, sustainable city and regional development, the role of technology and entrepreneurship in developing sustainable businesses with a low environmental impact and the role of corporate social responsibility in sustainable competitiveness.

Environmental and sustainable development specialists are in high demand in both public and private sectors both in terms of managing and regulating existing activity and developing new forms of environmentally sustainable activity. This is an area of high unmet demand for expertise across the economy.
